Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and microscopy on single dye molecules with 15 nm resolution.

چکیده
Our recently developed approach of UHV-tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy permits us to acquire Raman spectra of a few single brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) molecules and even a single one adsorbed on a Au(111) surface. This is substantiated by simultaneously recorded STM images. Furthermore, because of the reduced photobleaching in UHV, the time frame for spectral acquisition is sufficiently extended to allow tip-enhanced Raman imaging of a single BCB molecule with a lateral resolution of 15 nm.

A Nanoplasmonic Strategy for Precision in-situ Measurements of Tip-enhanced Raman and Fluorescence Spectroscopy
We theoretically investigate an optimized tip-film system that supports in-situ measurement of tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) and tip-enhanced fluorescence (TEF) of dye molecules. A scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is proposed to precisely control the tip-film distance, and thus in-situ measurement of TERS and TEF can be realized utilizing the specific surface plasmon resonance (SPR)...
متن کاملTip-enhanced Raman spectroscopic imaging of localized defects in carbon nanotubes
We used tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy to study defect induced D-band Raman scattering in metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes with a spatial resolution of 15 nm. The spatial extent of the D-band signal in the vicinity of localized defects is visualized and found to be about 2 nm only. Using the strong optical fields underneath the tip, we photogenerate localized defects and derive a relati...
متن کاملChemical Imaging on the Nanoscale - Top-Illumination Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy.
A top illumination system for tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) in a gap-mode configuration is presented here, which allows chemical analysis of sample surfaces with a lateral resolution beyond the optical diffraction limit and optical detection of very small amounts of analyte molecules (down to single molecule sensitivity). The technique combines the high resolution of an STM with label-...
متن کاملNear-field Raman Spectroscopy of Individual Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes
Near-field Raman spectroscopy with high spatial resolution is used to study singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) within dense samples. A sharp, laser irradiated metal tip acts as a near-field excitation source causing an enhanced Raman signal within close proximity of the tip. We present optical images of different Raman modes with a spatial resolution better than 15 nm. Local spectroscopy allo...
متن کاملNear-field Raman spectroscopy using a sharp metal tip.
Near-field Raman spectroscopy with a spatial resolution of 20 nm is demonstrated by raster scanning a sharp metal tip over the sample surface. The method is used to image vibrational modes of single-walled carbon nanotubes. By combining optical and topographical signals rendered by the single-walled carbon nanotubes, we can separate near-field and far-field contributions and quantify the observ...
